Introduction
Hello again hockey fans! I am back with another article for you. For this idea I’m combining two of my favourites: hockey and Hallowe’en! And do I love Hallowe’en! I’ve loved haunted houses and horror movies, but I’m going to go in a different direction with this one: Superheroes! And as you all know, my team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. So here we go!
Proposal/Concept
I propose superhero costumes for hockey heroes. Every team can make these – or just the Leafs – it doesn’t matter. The costumes would be typical of your everyday superhero – meaning they would come in many designs. Those designs would likely be inspired by existing superheroes like Superman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Cyclops and Wolverine! It’s really up to designers’ imaginations. A Maple Leafs superhero might have a white cap and gloves, as well as a mask all worn over a blue suit, for example.
Discussion
What else can be added to the design? What would reflect hockey heroes properly? Medals could be attached to the chest to”decorate” the hero. The Medals might even be in the form of the individual trophies awarded to hockey players: Selke, Norris, Vezina, Lady Byng, Calder and “Rocket” Richard all come to mind. Perhaps the most fitting trophy of all, especially in times like these, is the King Clancy Trophy for leadership on and off the ice and a notable humanitarian contribution to his community. We need more of this type of award, if you ask me. Being a good person is the most important goal of anyone’s life.
Challenge
In this time of crisis and the War in the Ukraine, I’d like to issue a small, creative challenge: Let’s create a new trophy to inspire others to charity, good deeds and helping others. My creation is the Veterans’ Trophy, given to the player who best exemplifies supporting our troops after they’ve come home. It brings to mind “Luke’s Troops”, from the days of Luke Schenn as a Toronto Maple Leaf. Maybe we should have an award for that. What do you think?
Conclusion
